Series for Social Media

On the Map!

In February 2023 the Economic Development department at Union Settlement asked us for a video series that centered local voices, showcased the variety of small businesses in East Harlem, and would integrate with their existing interactive neighborhood map. We created On the Map!

On set we work without a script, guiding the local host through an improvised shoot that leverages their talents and personality.

In October 2024 On the Map! won the New York EMMY Award in the category “Public Service Announcement (Campaign).”

Here are six spots from the campaign:

Mary’s Candy

Urban Garden Center

Uptown Shots

Charles Pan Fried Chicken

Comedy in Harlem

The Brownstone

Shop Your City

When the Department of Small Business Services launched Shop Your City in November 2020, the campaign included print, outdoor, and digital assets. We created its video component in the spring of 2021. We chose a playful voice for the series, from the spot’s opening fanfare to the host’s silly (and often corny) lines. We write, direct, shoot, and edit everything.

Since 2021 we’ve worked in more than 30 commercial corridors across New York City, partnering with local BIDs and CBOs in each.

In October 2023 Shop Your City won the New York EMMY Award in the category “Public Service Announcement (Campaign).”

Here are six spots from the campaign:

The Day is Coming (The Day is Here)

September 19, 2024 was a historic day for East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP). Together with families, press, and key partners, they cut the ribbon on their newest space, a state-of-art 70,000 square-foot high school, the
first new public high school building in East Harlem in over 60 years.

Several months before the ribbon cutting, EHTP commissioned us to memorialize the moment. We created a 4-part series called The Day is Coming (The Day is Here). The series features staff and student voices, as well as the renowned artist and mosaicist Manny Vega.

Always Essential in East Harlem

COVID highlighted Union Settlement’s unwavering commitment to East Harlem. In spite of the lockdown, they continued (and sometimes expanded) their on-the-ground services.

Always Essential in East Harlem, our 8-part documentary series, captures the resourcefulness and resiliency of the organization. Here are three episodes from the project:

Senior Calls

Meals on Wheels

The General Store

The Wisdom of Oz

Here are two episodes from the series subtitled Life Lessons from Ozanam Manor. Ozanam Manor is St. Vincent de Paul’s transitional shelter. We sat with residents and asked a single question – what’s a good life?
